Amber Brake

Our Founder:

Amber L. Brake, JD, MHA, FACHE is the founder and CEO of The Brake Group (formerly The Brake Group for Hospital Based Physicians, LLC) and has more than 24 years of leadership experience in hospital management and health care law. She offers a unique advantage to the physician and physician groups through her extensive experience as both a hospital administrator and health care attorney (both in-house counsel and external counsel). She has held the following leadership roles:

Amber graduated from the #1 ranked health law program with certification in health law (with honors) and a Masters in Health Care Administration. Amber started her career when, as a law student, she worked for a non-profit law firm that advocated for citizens with challenges to their healthcare coverage. She also worked as a House Supervisor during graduate school and learned hospital operations and management from the inner workings of a large hospital. She also was an intern for the US Attorney's office working on health care fraud and abuse cases.

She moved in-house as legal counsel with a hospital and worked her way into senior management and regional leadership roles for several major health systems.

Amber became board certified in health care management in 2002 and a Fellow (FACHE) in 2004. She has been published in several journals on such topics as ‘Managed Care Accountability for Emergency Care Access & Coverage' (Journal of Medicine and Law, Fall 1998) and ‘Challenges to Tax Exempt Status for Nonprofit Hospitals' (Journal of Healthcare Management, Sept. 2005).  She is an invited speaker for organizations such as American Health Lawyers Association and the Health Care Compliance Association.

She is admitted to both the Wisconsin and Arizona bars, and works with clients nationwide in accordance with the ABA's rules on multi-jurisdictional practice. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Medical Group Management Association. She is an invited speaker at various physician group conferences, industry leadership panels, and healthcare seminars with a variety of white papers and industry guidance.  She is the Regent for the American College of Health Care Executive's (ACHE) Council of Regents representing health care executives across the state of Arizona (2020-2023).  ACHE is the premiere industry association for 48,000 members nationally.
